STS IMPALA SINGLE TURBO KIT ALMOST COMPLETE! August 21, 2008

This project has been pending for a very very long time but it closely approaching completion. Dan and Vince (of Trifecta Performance) had the Caprice being used to create this product on the dyno yesterday with some great results. Below are some bits of posts from Dan, for more details check out our thread on the ImpalaSS forum at: http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=193313&page=8

Dyno:

"Sounds friggin awesome! Is pulling nice and strong but the pre-set spring in the turbo is only allowing us a max of 4 PSI. The 30 pound injectors are maxing at the higher rpm's and the boost tubing blew off a few times. Also, the side walls on the stock tires on the 94 9C1 were flexing at the top of 3rd gear at roughly 100+ miles per hour so Vince tuned in 2nd gear. He just came in grinning from ear to ear and told me he did one last run in 3rd gear; the results with 4 PSI to the wheels:

289 HP
343 lbs./ft. torque

He [Vince] is making one final adjustment to timing with one last pull for today.

Plans before the next dyno tune session:
Install adjustable boost regulator
Install adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Goal:

We want to see a 6 PSI, possibly 7 PSI run and will offer the kit safely at 6 PSI.

Over-all it has been a GREAT day on the dyno!

The Caprice:

This car has stock engine with stock tranny and stock rear end. The car came in from the customer with a Meziere electric water pump & LS1 coil pack ignition. We installed our original TRI-Y headers with cat delete pipes and our STS based rear mount turbo kit with exhaust and all boost tubing that goes with it. We also changed engine oil and filter as well as the tranny oil & filter.

Additional things done to the car, which we plan to include in the kit:

Swapped colder spark plugs in with .033 gap
Installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump.
Changed fuel filter.
Swapped Ford SVO 30 lbs. fuel injectors in.
Custom tuning by TriFecta Performance.

We are pretty happy to say the least."

Stay tuned for updates and keep an eye on the Impala forum for details!

NEW DYNO NEXT DOOR - One stop shop! June 2008

Much to our delight, Carbs Unlimited, an automotive repair shop and our neighbor, recently installed a 224x Dynajet Dynamometer. A single roller chassis dyno, the 224x is installed on a drive-on four post lift in Carbs’ second bay. It features an analog module and wide band 02. Pricing is yet to be determined.

We are really excited about the dyno. It will give us a chance to thoroughly test our products (when Dan finally gets his car running lol) and for those of you who want to increase performance or just see where you are at, you can come visit us and then bop next door all in one stop. Call Carbs Unlimited at 425.251.0210 for details. The dyno should be dialed in mid July.

FEATURE ADVENTURE

IRAQ IS FOR THE CHEVY

June 2008

It was his motivation to return alive from missions, something to keep him going when things got rough.

"Iraq is for the Chevy. Every time I went on a mission it was for the Chevy," said Nathaniel Washington, Army staff sergeant, cook and proud owner of a 1996 Chevrolet Impala.

“When the Olympics were in Atlanta, I was 17, we passed a line of Impalas on our way down and that is when I fell in love.”

He found the Chevy in a used dealership. It had been repainted black, the paint job was terrible.

"My first winter [stationed] in Alaska, it was negative 10–15 degrees and the paint started cracking, and I figured if I got new paint then I should shave the doors." The rest is history.

Waiting in line at his army base call center in Iraq, Washington paced for an hour and a half before he was able to place his first big order, headers and cats.

"When I got home from Iraq I hugged the family, went downstairs, picked up the headers and had my son take a picture," recalls Washington.

Like many projects, this one started small but quickly escalated. The next big step- rims.  Despite potential clearance issues Washington chose 22s. His next mission was to convince his better half the necessity of rear air bags (to solve the clearance issues of course).

"If you are going to do it, spend the money to do it right the first time," said Washington, quoting his wife, Shineka Washington.  "So now I have to buy her a house," Washington laughed.

When it was all done, "I had the family buckle up, started the car and hit the buttons."

The kids giggled as they bounced around in the back, and even the Mrs. loved it. Finally, the mission for this Chevy was complete.

So what is the trick to a successful operation?  Washington says, "Make sure you get consent with the wife before spending all the money. Communication is key!"
