Cranking Tool
|
This tool was fabricated to allow the
crank shaft to be rotated from the front pulley. After
breaking the bolt off inside the end of the crank shaft and
spending $70.00 to have a machine shop extract it, we wanted
to make sure it didn't happen again. We were lucky the
engine was on the stand and not already mounted. This tool
is made of 11 gauge laser cut mild steel and a large 5/8"
nut is Tig welded to the center. This tool is attached with
three bolts which can thread directly into the front pulley.
If one of these smaller bolts breaks, it is as simple as
backing the other two out by hand, removing the tool and
removing the broken bolt from the pulley by hand. The
alternative is breaking the main bolt on the crank and
having to deal with extracting it while the engine is
mounted, or worse, having to pull the engine.
